City
Court -- Frequently Asked Questions
1. Do I have to come to court?
No. You may pay your ticket using the schedule on the back of
your ticket and not appear in court. The mailing address is
on the back of the ticket.
2. Can I pay with a credit or debit card?
No. We accept cash, check or money order only.
3. Will this ticket show up on my driving record?
Yes. If you are found guilty or pay the ticket without coming
to court, the City of Belle Meade is required to report the information
to the Tennessee Department of Safety. This information is part
of your official driving record.
4. Will my insurance go up if this goes on my record?
That is a question you must ask your insurance agent.
5. Can I go to traffic school to keep this ticket off of my record?
We do have a Defensive Driving School. An appearance in City Court is required
for those who may be eligible. This traffic school has been designed primarily
for first offenders or those who have maintained a safe driving record for
an extended number of years. If you are allowed to attend the Defensive Driving
School your ticket will be dismissed and will not appear on your driving record.
6. What if I plead “not guilty”?
Your case will be heard in the City Court of Belle Meade. Sworn testimony will
be heard, facts of the case will be presented and the Judge will render a decision
concerning the matter.
